Why some places have a page and others do not

We hold accommodation records for 20,474 towns, but half of them contain two properties or fewer. A page about two properties is a thin page, and a thousand thin pages devalue the ones worth reading.

So a town gets a guide when it holds at least ten places to stay and at least two of six independent signs that there is something to say about them: photographs, star ratings, three or more categories, named districts, written descriptions, or listed facilities. 1,699 towns clear that bar. A country gets a guide when it holds at least 50 places across at least five towns — which is how countries whose listings are spread too thinly for any single town page still get one page that says something true.
